LYRICS
You locked a knife inside my heart
Buried a key inside my mind
The map surveyed, the X you chart
Where our hands go to hide

Will our needs stay level
As the terrain starts to grade high?
Should I remain unsettled
Watch goodnight turn to goodbye

Hold on to me
Tell me you got me, sweetheart
The world is going dim in my gaze
Sweet Vertigo
Feel my lungs heaving, choking
Clawing down my back
Panic attack
I’m alone
Watch me float as I fall

The soundtrack / placed over this part
It shares no rhythm of mine
It juts and sways, it ends and starts
All in and out of our time

Oh, I can be your dancer
The one you set within your sights
When I admit surrender
Then maybe, goodbye will turn to goodnight

Oh no, we have been cursed
This stage set for a tragic verse
Our Love Protocoled Romance
Our air drained of happenstance

What have we turned ourselves into?
This abstract personnel

Hold on to me…

Claudio writes the best expression of love and desire towards a person, whether in a healthy or deranged way. He's one of the best and my favorite lyricists of all time period, actually.

This song is as if ‘Erica Court’, ‘Here to Mars’, and ‘Time Consumer’ had a beautiful love child.

I might be a sensitive little flower but goddamn the chorus brings me to tears.

obsessed w/ the way he sings "im alone". i expect one of his usual vocal flourishes on a word held that long but its about as unflourished as you can get without holding the same note the whole way through. its very regular, and unexpected, and both of these traits draw attention to the words themselves, making what is already a very stark, naked, and simple statement into something even more so. like a straight punch. and the fact that it's a subversion, that someone whose singing style i am very familiar with didn't do what i was expecting - that in and of itself evokes a feeling of loneliness. like a little betrayal of trust. i have no idea if any of this was intentional or not, but it's a very powerful and interesting effect.

I was gonna ask "don't you fucking love this song?", but that would be a stupid question. One of the best three songs in this album. Just fucking love it.

If Coheed and Cambria made a song about Mac and Cheese or Peanut butter and Jelly it would be awesome. Every song resonates and hits right in your feelings box.

Best song on the album for me. It's got what I love in a Coheed song. That dry pluck and chug of Claudio's Explorer, Josh giving out a groovy intricate beat (you really can hear his jazz influences)- with a nice staccato bass line that thumps, and then a run out of 'nowhere' by Travis.
This is probably the best verse(s) I've heard from Coheed in forever, just in terms of the sheer structure, delivery, cadence, clarity and subject matter in regards to Claudio's articulated/conversational approach.
To harp on about the verses of this song more- it really makes the whole track feel more intimate and like it's defiantly significant as a part in the story. It feels very earnest. Something I really haven't heard from Coheed since the Good Apollo years: that desperate earnestness.

"Then maybe 'goodbye' will turn to 'goodnight'- oh
'Goodbye' will turn to 'goodnight'- oh..."

This line right here is now one of my alltime favorite moments in a Coheed and Cambria song. I can't help but smile.

Overall, I get a real 'The Lying Lies & Dirty Secrets Of Miss Erica Court' vibe to this, and that's my favorite Coheed song. I feel like this song could be slipped in to fit nicely along with the Willing Well series.

Edit: This is now my favorite Coheed and Cambria song. Of all of them. I never thought it would ever happen that I would enjoy a Coheed and Cambria song as much as my favorite songs from Good Apollo I and IKSIII... Wow. This is seriously beyond all expectations!

We can't say enough good things about this album. Over a year later, and we're all still jamming to this! These guys are such huge influences for our music, and we can't wait till the next Coheed record!
