When Gandalf DISRESPECTED this valuable cast-member!

Some seemingly simple scenes in The Lord of the Rings were actually complex to film. One example is the scene where Gandalf pulls Sam into Bag End. It required three "actors": a doll for the initial pull, a scale double wearing a Sam mask to show the size difference, and Sean Astin for the close-up shots. The transitions happen so quickly that viewers rarely notice. Next time, watch closely to spot the doll and double before the switch to Astin.
