I think the top inside mesh pocket is designed that way so you can open the bag only part way, allowing the lid to flop over, exposing only the top pocket. The diagonal zipper keeps small items from falling out when you unzip, either when the lid is flopped or unflopped.

I'm saddened by the design choice of the zippers on both this backpack and the transit backpacks. I had ordered a black transit workpack, but I decided to return it due to the shiny and blue zippers. Although the blue color of the zippers may not be very noticeable in this video, it becomes strikingly apparent in bright daylight when contrasted with the all-black exterior. From a design perspective, I struggle to comprehend why this decision was made. I firmly believe that if they had opted for matte black zippers, these backpacks would have been absolutely perfect.

Does any airport security care if you have toiletries in something like the Bellroy Dopp kit he has and is not in a clear bag? I’ve always read that any liquids or toiletries must be in a clear container bag. But I see so many people with Dopp kits in one bag traveling.
