✅ Today Let's understand the concept of OPC UA.

First we will get the idea why it is required, Then we will understand how it works.

✅ Why (Problem):
- Before HMIs or SCADAs are communication with PLCs via particular drivers.
EX 1: Siemens S71200 PLC will communicate with HMI via siemens driver only.
EX 2: Allen Bradly PLC will communicate with HMI via AB driver only.

So, This was the problem actually. One HMI or SCADA can not be having all the PLCs drivers. To overcome this problem OPC will came into picture.

Earlier OPC DA was used to communicate with different PLC. But it was only limited to windows only. Linux was not supported OPC DA.
To overcome this problem OPC UA will came into picture.

✅ How OPC UA works:
There are two things: OPC UA Server and OPC UA Client.

✅ OPC UA Server :
This can be connected to any devices irrespective of drivers. Sensors, Actuators, PLCs, IO links and other devices can communicate to this OPC UA SERVER. This server will be having all the data from all the field devices and it will generate the URL to communicate with OPC client.

✅ OPC UA Client:
OPC client can connect with multiple OPC UA Servers with URLs generated by OPC Servers. It can read/write the data as per requirements.

✅ Note : OPC Server and OPC Client can be from different make.

✅ OPC UA is not a protocol. It is a standard in Automation Industry.
