Funny that Alan mentions exactly how to game the mutual citation process to become "a feline authority". In his 1965 collection The Cyberiad, Stanislaw Lem included a short story about four "scholars" who always cited and even praised each other in their published works, around and around, until they were well renowned authorities. Worth reading, if you can find it. Lovely poetry, too.

Not sure . Pop who is immune compromised, stopped getting sick when stopping meals 3 hours before bed and getting off all medications 10 years ago. Sitting causes stagnant blood flow.

These wild animals go where they want and do what they will. Their behaviours have been studied but who knows what other thoughts they have like this is a beautiful day, that was a delicious meal and Holy Sh**! That was a close one.

Wild animal infections through trash: in Japan you cannot find any trash cans. Everyone is trained to take their trash home!!!

Mike's letter about eradicating covid, etc. perfectly summarizes the frustration many folks have. I wish we could prioritize clean indoor air (HEPA, germicidal UV-C units in rooms where people gather, ventilation, etc.) to at least reduce transmission... but that's expensive and would require retrofitting of buildings on a grand scale, and who's gonna pay for that? If your workplace, school, apartment building, dorm, gym, restaurant, doctor office, gathering space, theater, arena, etc. didn't have clean water, it would be shut down until it was remediated. But we're turning a blind eye to breathing icky air.

I watched people gathering for the Olympics, Taylor Swift's concerts, and the DNC/RNC and thought "Welp, that's gonna be a superspreader event." And they were. If they won't clean the indoor air, then we have to do it ourselves by slapping on a mask, but that's unpopular.

(I'm a musician, and it's bittersweet to play to a packed house. I bring big c-r boxes for the backstage areas and green rooms, but it doesn't help the audience at all.)

1:20:40 Could our school system be partly responsible for people not wanting to change their mind? In school, there is a focus on the right answer. One right answer. Scores on tests are built up as being so very important, as is class ranking. Real science doesn't work that way. But kids have grades/grade points drilled into them before they hear that about science.

‘Mouse hospital’ 😺
You’re about the only group of whom I cannot say ‘you’re too young to remember’…Remember _Fernwood 2 Night_ ? … in which Dr. Robert Osgood, who, having finished research at a local community college, told his audience that his worst suspicions had been confirmed, that “in laymen’s terms, leisure suits cause cancer.” The study had been conducted with two groups of laboratory mice, the hard-luck team dressed for a year in polyester leisure suits, the control group (with better success getting dates) in “sport jackets, for the same period of time.” If the news was bad, there was always hope: Osgood was testing leisure suits soaked in Laetrile.

For the first time in nearly 40 years there's so much dust that my NYC apartment was filled with cobwebs and I can't see out my windows that need washed. I think it's because of the Canadian Wildfires.

Alan forgot that many cats here in New England have 6 toes on each front foot. I've known a number of polydactylic cats. Maybe they count in base 12, as some humans used to do if it's true that the teens start with thirteen as a survival of an ancient base-12 system.

with pox it is the only type of illness where bedding is buried or burned. Any other illness it is hot water and soap for bedding. This is old history but also fact. older people had pox beginning with "small" needle. is that the same in maybe a partial way?

Immunity is acheived from the bottom up not from the top (The state) down. When you look after immunity all of this becomes academic
