what is the worst test isn't conveyed by the score you got on it. I've had tests that I've gotten a 0 on and felt absolutely unscathed(I didn't try, there was very little on the line), there are tests i've gotten a 80 on and felt absolutely demoralized and it made me doubt my abilities. There are tests such as math competitions that I got 70's on and felt like a genius. The numerical score never tells the whole story just by itself

I had a teacher ask questions about material not from class and not in the book. Everyone failed. It was beyond unfair.

Course on proofs. I studied hard and weeks later it paid off. I received my first 100%! I was elated. For the first time I felt confident in mathematics, even thinking perhaps I was another Ramanujan...then the very next test I got a 23%. (You did a video on this and it is so true).

I don't have just one. It's very embarrassing but I failed every exam on Analysis and Group Theory on the same semester. It made me realize I needed to study more. It was a painful lesson but I'm glad I it happened. When you're at your low that's when you really learn.

I got a 1/7 on my first calc limits exam

10/95 on Discrete Math. I still have nightmares 😂😂

Every single math test I took was bad. Why? I hadn't practice enough to build speed.

Working on changing that.

My worst math test was around the 40s, from a topic called "Advanced Calculus, " which is basically undergrad real analysis. Up to that point, I was very good at math and confident in my abilities. This class was the wake up call I needed to realize that I shouldn't take my talent and skills for granted, and I need to complement them with effort. I ended up recovering in that class for a B, and afterwards I asked the professor for a recommendation for grad school.

I had this crazy number theory professor who gave us, as he called them, "negative points". Now, there have been times that I've gotten a 0 on a test, but in his class I got like, a -51%. Got a 30 in his class at the end of it and that was B in his class

Real analysis.... homework 30% ... midterm 52%.... two weeks ago. Final in five weeks. I got Mathematical Proofs (one of your recommended texts, used to be called A Transition to Advanced Mathematics by Chartrand, Polimeni, and Zhang) on Monday and have been reading and practicing proof writing ever since.

It's hard to tell if a test is a bad test because there can be an argument made for equal effort on the student's part and the teacher's part as well. I just got a 43 on an exam and my first exam was a 102. It was my first math proofs class and I still haven't a clue about how to study these. The teacher also didn't do a review (like she usually does), gave us only one class period to talk about a new topic, and made the test very long (it took me 30 min to do 1 question). And that's 30/75 … and 1/11 questions

There were 2.

1st Calc 1 Exam was more painful spirtually. I think it was in the 50's

3rd exam in Calc 2 with a 48%. I just couldnt grasp the differences between the different types of Sequences/Series. I think Ive gotten a little better since then.

I know you did a tour of the top of your bookshelf, but could you do the tour of the whole library, if possible? I find watching people's book collections very entertaining.

First graduate school algebra quiz/exam. The professor put at the top “Good Luck!” Afterward we were told he would have been impressed if anyone got even one of them correct. Lol (Got to love it!!)

I don't have an awful test I remember but I got into a super competitive stem highschool program in grade 11. I struggled greatly and got a C in math. But I stayed in the program, bounced back, and I currently have an A in calculus 💪

My worst test was a 17% on an AP Physics 1 test. I gave up in that class first semester and studied math in it, so I did not really care. Surprisingly, I ended up with a C in the class after having a 17% overall grade for about 6 weeks.

I am a physics major and my worst test that I took, ironically was on classical mechanics. The most basic of all of physics and I still suck balls at it sigh

20/100 on a PDE test recently. Going through severe life turmoil and studying nothing in addition to hating boundary value problems more than almost anything on the planet led to a bad result.

My first year in physics at university it was linear algebra, the final exam. It was so different from what we had seen in classroom, we all got destroyed and I got 5/20. I was disgusted about linear algebra for a while before understanding how beautiful it is actualy.

To get selected into the Indian IMO team, a high school student needs to go through the following series of tests: PRMO (Pre-RMO), RMO (Regional Math Olympiad), INMO (India National MO), and then four TSTs (Team Selection Tests) at the camp held for INMO qualifiers. [To qualify for this camp you need to come in the top 30 of the country.]
I got a grand score of 2/102 in PRMO 2018.
It wasn't all bad though, I qualified INMO 2020 (and thus PRMO/RMO 2019 as well); although the camp was cancelled (and India didn't participate in IMO 2020) due to COVID-19.
