Is this worth 2k? I dont think so, these were under $1000 a couple years ago, and they were barely worth it then.

It's 2024. the Cheapest tractor I found was the Murray at Home Depot for $1, 800. The problem with that one is that it's not made by Murray. it's made by Daye, and you can't find parts for it. It will be an lawn ornament as soon as it breaks.. You are still looking at 2K for a new one or more.. If you want a Zero turn, you are looking much higher. If you want electric, it's even higher.. I ended up going with the Cub Cadet LT42.. Happy with it so far, but I've only used it's twice..

One of deck supports broke on my 2012 Craftsman. I looked at new mowers, then a new deck, then a reasonably priced hobby welder. I now have a welder and a deck with an ugly repair.

Still using my 30y/o craftsman. Still cuts 2 acres. Original belts until last year. I just keep fixin' her whenever something goes wrong. It's not hard.

It really doesn't matter about the brand because most tractors are made by mtd anyway. My grandfather bought a mower from TSC and my uncle bought a mower from Ace hardware. Even though they were different brands and different prices they were identical mowers. And what was even funnier was that I bought a mower from Menards a few years before them and it too was the same mower but a different brand. I already knew this little bit of information because as a teenager I worked at my neighbor's small engine repair shop. We had a book of parts that would swap from brand to brand on mtd tractors

It's an MTD.
Craftsman added $500 to the price.

Paying for new equipment is now an insult rather than a comfort.

I was wanting a new zero turn with a Kawasaki engine but they were asking $7, 000 plus taxes. So I found a 2022 John Deere m530r 54” zero turn with the Kawasaki engine with only 29 hours and a full 5 yr or 500 hours warranty on Facebook marketplace. They asked for $5, 000 I talked them down to $3, 500 plus free delivery. This model comes with the safety bar, led lights, top tier seat. All paid for no payments saved my credit and money 💯.

I would buy a commercial machine, before buying one from lowes or Home Depot. People in our neighborhood were buying these type of mowers and we’re replacing about every 2.5 to 3 years.
We also you can go to auction, one of the neighbors went to auction bought a 10 year turf tiger and has used it for almost 9 years with the same engine. And my Scag is going on 15 years

Still using a 1970 Wheel Horse. It smokes a bit but always gets the job done.

I look at these back in 2000 and I walked. It was the middle of winter, so I ended up buying 3 no running 2002-4 Craftsman LT1000s and spent the winter build one out of three. By the next mowing season, I had an excellent running Kohler Command powered, “as close to new” looking as I could make it/need it to be LT. Dependable, simple, has all the features I wanted (that you can no longer buy new), and easy/cheap to get parts for. All in, $300.00 invested … which, by the way, is about all the new Lowes “Crapsman” MTD should cost!

I have a JD 332 that has almost 4000 hours on it that has been through two sets of V tread tires and two sets of turf tires a starter an alternator. Best lawn and garden tractor ever. I would gladly spend a couple thousand keeping that thing running.
