Hello Tomorrow Turkey Challenge, the Turkey chapter of Hello Tomorrow’s 5th international Deep Tech (Science and Technology) Competition, was held on 11 December 2018 at the Zorlu PSM in Istanbul. At the event organized with the support of TEB-BNP Paribas, Boston Consulting Group, Actuate Plus, Mspark and Netban, 12 of Turkey’s best science and technology-based startups selected among 4,500 applications from 119 countries around the world competed for the first place in their respective category.
The category winners, evaluated by an expert jury composed of Turkey’s leading academics, investors and business executives, are NanoMatTR (“Energy and Environment” track), Interact Medical Technologies (“Health and Biotechnology” track), B-PREG (“Industry and New Materials” track) and TAZI.AI (TAZI Bilişim) (“Data and Artificial Intelligence” track). In the subsequent grand finals NanoMatTR was awarded this year’s big prize and became the Hello Tomorrow Turkey 2018 Challenge grand winner.
At one of Turkey’s leading deep tech events, we had some of the world’s best deep tech pioneers and Hello Tomorrow Global Finalists pitch live on stage: Kevin Noertker, Founder and CEO of Ampaire, a fully electric and zero-emissions aircraft developer; Dr. Tom Stubbs, Founder and CEO of Chronomics, the world’s first consumer epigenetics testing company combining AI, epigenetics research and next generation sequencing; Dr. Raymond Lo, Founder & CEO of MODAR.AI, an augmented reality company developing AI integrated glasses and incubated at Harvard University’s Innovation Labs, who also performed a live demo of their latest model glasses for the first time in the world; as well as Sebastian Desand, CEO of IngridCloud, a spin-out from the prestigious KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm that develops cutting-edge wind simulation software.
At the “deep-tech investors panel” moderated by ScaleX Ventures Managing Partner Dilek Dayınlarlı, TEB Senior Vice President, SME Banking and Deputy Managing Director Turgut Boz, Sabancı Holding Industry Group Chairman Cenk Alper, Future Gravity Ventures Founder Petri Saarinen discussed deep tech startup and corporate collaborations and how to spur investment in local deep tech startups. In an inspirational closing keynote, Arkın Çelik, founder of EVNX.live, presented Numerocognitive and Expression Design concepts to help make the crucial link between the pioneering technologies developed and their application in the real world.
