Unfortunately this hasn't worked for me. I'm trying to open a very old word document back from 2001, likely using Office 97/2000. I've had these files backup for many many years and I'm now having a sort out. It's been so long I can't remember the passwords.

Some of these documents are possibly from my old msn days, the chat logs from when I first met my partner that I'm still with to this day. It would be very interesting to go back and reminisce, read and look to see what falling in love was like 😅.

I followed your steps and I was unable to open the renamed protected word document as .zip. The error message - error cannot open file and another error message says nothing is contained within the zip file?.

At the moment I'm using an old free password recovery key software which has been running for almost over 24hrs now with no password.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated but looking around online I've tried most things already with no luck.

Win 10 does not allow a Zip file (was a Word.docx file) to be opened anymore. Windows comes out with the error message "Windows cannot open the the folder. The Compressed (zipped) Folder XXX is invalid."

Renaming to zip creates a corrupted zipfile. Now i know your gimmick will "NOT" work on proper secured docx files..

Worked well on docx files, but not doc files unfortunately.
