Here is an alternate plan which I followed and which provides much better chances: Step 1 and 2 remains the same. But, in step 3 instead of waiting for project list to come, see what's missing in the library which you are contributing to and propose a project in the slack channels. If you get enough traction from owners, write a proposal for it.(This is even before the projects are announced). Since the other applicants won't be submitting any proposal for this project(because this is what you proposed and it is not in the list), you have almost 99% chance of getting selected.

Hey, I have seen the eligibility criteria for GSoC and it says you have to be a beginner with <10 issues and PRs on GitHub, but I have more than 50 PRs and issues (basic ones), am I still eligible ?
