Could Palpatine Defeat Sauron From The Lord Of The Rings?

Palpatine and Sauron are both the personification of evil and the thirst for power. For this match-up, we will take them both at the height of their power. For Sauron, this was towards the end of the second age, when he was still in the possession of the one ring. For Palpatine, this was after his rebirth during the Dark Empire series. Palpatine’s power at this point was so great he could decimate entire worlds with his force storm ability. I find it doubtful that Palpatine would not be able to significantly weaken and remove the ring from Sauron's mortal body. However, Palpatine would not be able to resist the temptation and power granted by the ring and he would not destroy it. Thus, over many years, Sauron’s immortal Maiar spirit would take over Palpatine’s body, either corrupting him into one of his henchmen or possessing Sidiouses body entirely.

Sauron withstood the lightning of Manwe, Lord of the Valar and the Skies. Essentially Tolkien Zeus. Sauron is unbelievably powerful and durable. After the death of morgoth and before the destruction of Numenor, he was the most powerful being on the planet, save for the 14 remaining Valar. He’s a shapeshifter, sorcerer, necromancer, and is infinitely more durable than Creamy Sheev.
The core difference is that Sauron’s feats are canon and Palpatines are not, for good reason.
A character that can destroy planets completely messes with the canon of Star Wars. He’s more powerful than what he’s simply portrayed as in the movies, but not as powerful as some of the ridiculous novels out there.
