The refiners have their own tank, and once the tank is full you can still fill up the refiner with food and honey, then the refiner will start running to refill the tank as soon as any is used on your pipe system.

I've found each refiner can maintain a full tank with 2 engines running, with 3 engines the level in the tank will start to drop. If you have multiple refiners they work the same as the tanks, where only one will be used at a time, so if you have 4 engines and 2 refiners one will go empty before the other one turns on.

You can take cans of biofuel out of the refiner, but you can't put them back in, so if you have reached the point of using a windmill to recharge your batteries and don't have any red tanks in your fuel system cans of biofuel become useless.

The new planks that you can place anywhere are a good substitute for covering the holes where your pipes feed through. Cost more but looks good.
