I used to visit Quebec every year. The Best Hot dog I've ever had was called a "chien chaud" literally around the area you showed at 5:54, I think the restaurant had long closed prior to the pandemic. It was a small French Baquette with a hole formed the sauces were placed into the Baquette and the Hot Dog was last. They had 3 types of sausages/ hot dogs. 1 spicey sausage, 1 sweet sausage, and 1 hot dog.
Those days are over sorry you never got to experience it.

I don't know about you but if you want a hot dog in Quebec City, go to Ashton. Get a poutine to go with it. What you ate was a local version of a German sausage with Sauerkraut.

IMO German Brats don’t really make it in a hotdog bun. I think they’re great as a knife and fork meal with potatoes and sauerkraut.

Why didn't you go back and ask for some other condiments? I was talking with a friend who had just come back from Germany last year and we were talking about hot dog stands in Berlin where he was., any claims that they serve a hybrid sausage 🌭 dog with a curry seasoned ketchup that they are known for and mustard only if you're lucky...
I think that bland dog you were eating could have used that Curry ketchup

Quebec city is a great place to visit, although I must say, that hot dog looked really disappointing.

That is a European wiener, which are very, very mild tasting and like you say have no flavour. There is a DEFINITE difference between North American hot dogs and European ones. The thick European wieners are called Knackwurst and basically taste the same. In Canada, most regular hot dogs are made by Maple Leaf meats/ Schneiders, or Hygrade. If in Quebec anywhere, get what’s called a Steamie, all dressed. You’ll like those and add a Poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds) with it!!!
