I’m with a lot of people on this, stormtroopers in books and other lore are absolutely terrifying. So many people assume stormtroopers are imperial grunts and fodder, when in reality they were considered elite soldiers capable of terrifying things. Even if you just read the Thrawn (empire) books the stormtroopers in those books actively instill fear in their enemies and generally take very few losses. The real fodder of the empire was navy troopers.

Stormtroopers are always looked down as being horrible soldiers, and get a really bad rap in the movies, but Stormtroopers were legitimately terrifying soldiers. Completely dedicated and very well trained. There's a reason so few Stormtroopers deserted.

In my opinion, Star Wars failed to walk the thin line between ‘badass’ and ‘beatable’ for the empire. Darth Vader and fringe cases aside, when every single engagement between the empire and the rebels/alliance/whatever their called now is ‘12 farmers destroy a emp capital ship with 1 loss’, it invalidates both the villains and the protagonist’s supposed victory.

Yes, THIS is how the stormtroopers actually were. It’s annoying when people say that stormtroopers have terrible aim, because at the beginning of A New Hope, they shredded the rebel troops. People usually take the scene where the Millennium Falcon landed in the Death Star and say, “They didn’t hit a single shot, they bad” when in reality they were ordered to let them go.
