U.S. railways work to update aging infrastructure

Amtrak is planning a summer of urgently-needed upgrades. The improvements will lead to more delays and cancellations at the nation's busiest train hub, Penn Station. Peter Greenberg reports.

It is sad and disgusting that we spent so much blood, sweat and tears to build our nation's railroads and have abandoned them the way we have. Very sad what we do to our country. Having airplanes and interstates should be irrelevant for the railroads because people still need the rails. We need high speed rail and need to catch up with Europe and Asia.

Remember those old rail companies? They still exist and they own they rails. If they need to ship freight, Amtrak has to get out of the way. I live near a railway musuem. There are 3 lines that run next to it. And they are not in the best of shape. They are still gravel and railroad ties. They get replaced periodically, and that's the GOOD tracks. No derailments in many years. Our rail network was a thing of beauty at the turn of the last century, but it was funded by rail barons. People don't have that kind of money anymore.

This won’t help Amtrak make profit by any means but I would like if Trump could get rid of the bill or someone help get rid of it so UP and other railroads can do passenger services and update their rail so freight and passenger trains can go faster. So it’s a win win. (I know it’s not that simple to just get rid of a bill and all the other shenanigans).
