As far as I know, they now offer blizzcon app, which live-streams main event for blizzcon from this year. So if you don't want to pay while you want to watch it, you can just download the app.
Virtual ticket is for the people who want their Mulkalot and etcs.. or who want to watch it on big screens.

LONG time ago, people were allowed to upload and use animated gif files, but that ability was remove in one of their updates, but people that had already uploaded them and didn't change them still have them
