That "I AM", in John means I existed, that would make a complete sentence. Saying I AM there is not a complete sentence. In the old testament even saying I AM, in Exodus, is not the name of GOD, read the next two verses that is where GOD, or Jesus, is saying what His name is. That text has GOD saying I AM that I AM, means I have existed from the beginning.

Verses below shows that God was not speaking through Jesus in Old Testament. Only in these last days HE spoke to us through His Son. Jesus doesn't exist in Old Testament. He was foreknow, because it was God's plan to save the world from the beginning, but Jesus became reality (word of GOD became material/flesh (greek 'sarx, means flesh or material) what He promised became real and people could at last touch and see this salvation God promised, and it was man Jesus)
Heb 1:1-2: "In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world."

I am, Jesus claimed to be Yahweh because he was and he still is. 😮

Let’s not say it means something other than that was said. Jesus is not the angel of the Lord, because the angel appeared to Joseph and spoke to him about Jesus, as someone else. Also, the Bible says that Jesus was made a little lower than angels. If he was that Angel, that would mean he would have to be reincarnated which the Bible does not say. One last thing the “I am” statement is a reoccurring theme of the book of John. It said many times as a style of literature, but never specifically says “I am God” purposely, and at the end of John, he tell us the booked about that Jesus is the son of God, who claim to be! Jesus, being very careful with his words purposely didn’t say that for a reason, although he claimed to be the son of God literally in the book of John.
