That Pedal Show Special – Slide Guitar With Ariel Posen

In this episode Daniel and Mick welcome our friend and all-round awesome guitar player, Ariel Posen, to the show. Ariel is from Canada and plays in one of our favourite bands, The Brothers Landreth (among many other gigs, sessions, tours and projects). And he’s just moved to Ireland.
We wanted to do something on slide guitar and as neither of us play slide, this was just the perfect opportunity…

During the video we discuss effects including overdrive, compression, tremolo, reverb and delay as they relate to slide tones and approaches. It’s not a lesson or a manifesto on the art of slide, more a discussion with a few laughs along the way.

Pedals Featured In This Episode…

• Kingsley Maiden

• Kingsley Page

• Hamstead Soundworks Signature Tremolo

• Lovepedal Hall Mod Reverb

Funny how nobody understood the Star Trek's phasers reference when Ariel said that he liked to set his overdrives to "stun" :) Fantastic episode! Keep it up guys.

We can't talk about slide playing without mentioning the great Jack Pearson. His technique on slide guitar is impeccable.

First, I love the show, guys. Just makes my day. Every day. Secondly, this video was exceptional. I've been playing for 16 years and have been so afraid of the slide, but this just really set a fire under me, so thank you. I have to say also to Ariel: Dude, you've got it. In an ocean of guitar players, you stand apart. Thanks for the inspiration, gentlemen.

Also, I love Dan's "Ah yeah!!" face and Mick's "This is AWEsome!" face.

Just recently discovered the Bros. Landreth, they are amazing, great to hear and see such an inspiring slide player at That Pedal Show, Ariel sounded amazing, no matter what pedals were used, so maybe another lesson from this show: Practice more, spend less time worrying about your gear : )

the split second before Mick said "whoa, we went to unmanageable there" I was thinking HOLY CRAP THAT'S THE GREATEST ELECTRIC SLIDE TONE I'VE EVER HEARD

Thanks! I was so waiting for the Thorpy Muffroom Cloud to be added and used by the slide player. That fuzz is the one that could really blew everyone's mind up! Slide guitar with the Muffroom is just unbelievably good.

6:03 exactly describes how I use my amp these days- crank it to 10 for your over the top solo sound that cuts through the band, then dial your guitar back from there. You get everything that the amp is capable of at your fingertips.

Nice one guys. What a beautiful player Ariel is. More than licks, melodies and artful phrasing just flow out of him.

That Slide Rig compressor just takes it right into lap/pedal steel territory. Absolutely stunning. And those behind-the-slide licks really make it sound like a pedal steel.

No Way!! I had the privilege of listening to Ariel play and sing with All the King's Men in Winnipeg on more than one occasion. I wondered what would become of his musical career because he has a great voice and great tone. What a nice surprise. Thanks for the video!

What amazed me about this and the Andertons video is how quickly I recognized that monster tone, and how much the playing blew me away! I love these guys, I hope they get real far out there :)
