My 2005 525i is still going strong. She's currently at 202, 000 miles. I have never owned a better car! Its been so reliable and fun to drive. But that being said, I always baby her. I don't drive fast over rough roads. drive long distances, do scheduled maintenance, and use quality parts and fluids.

I use 20w50 Castro gtx part synthetic in 2004 BMW 545i.Its perfect for the climate I live in and the car runs like a champ.

Basically at around 80 - 100 thousand miles it will start to fail, start with things that will leave you stranded, cooling system and oil cooler gasket. When the gasket goes it will leak oil into the water and clog up everything from heater matrix behind the dash, and the pump. And you won't know because it leaks internally. I think the pump only last 50 to 80 thousand mile? I think? As the coolant level drops, ppl just top up with Water.., water boils, puts more pressure on the system.. Crack goes your tank... Just in time for when you buy the car because the previous owner noticed the cooling levels dropping and thought " oh no, head gasket gone, gotta get rid"...

Good information, Nathan. I'm in the process of sorting and "baselining" my new-to-me 2008 528xi. I have parts on order to do the serpentine belt, oil filter housing and oil cooler gaskets, and coolant flush and change, plus typical oil change and a good once-over. I'm looking forward to a long and hopefully happy relationship with the car.

Just not the same car since you partially restored it. I miss the stench, the easily accessible loose change, and I always had a place to store my gun. If I was low on meth, I could roll the windows up and get a nice high from the leaking fuel pump. Where are all my business cards??

My 06 530xi really has been good to me. Only things iv replaced are the water pump $200 on ebay. And thats it. Regular maintenance and inspection should keep you in the safe zone. I will say i am having the problem of my coolant levels dropping but very very slowly. Over the course of two months or so il have to top up the reservoir. And my passenger restraint system malfunction as well as driver airbag malfunctions. And im in the process of doing all the control arms etc. due to the notorious popping front end noise. Other than those maintenance items its a beautiful and great car

In the E60 also the wires in the trunk are get fraded making the lock mechanism hot and the truck not able to close. Had it done twice. I had a 2006 525i and currently own a 2008 528xi. Also at a 100, 000 if you buy one the starter will need replaced.

I have a 08 535xi and I got it from auction with leaking pipes that cool off turbos, and I have a oxygen sensor problem next to catalyst and I think a limp problem but it has 160, 000 miles but I really enjoy the driving experience

I owned a 2009 525 LCI.n52 is quiet reliable but continuosly bug by stupid sensors.the IBS sensors.

What's going on just came across your page definitely a new subscriber I had a quick question I am purchasing a 2005 BMW 545i the car does not have reverse is that a common issue would you know if that is something where you would have to change the whole transmission would be a big help if you could leave me in the right direction awesome content this page rocks

Hey Nathan, Do you have the transmission pan and filter for a 2004 525i E60 available for sale? I believe it's the same combined pan and filter setup like your E60...Thanks.
