It's heartbreaking to watch his face. The horror that she's dead. The satisfaction of knowing she married and the way he looks up at the sky, feeling she's in heaven and made the right choice, even if he's still stuck being alone. At least he got a motorcycle and modern clothes which is nice.

everyone saying that she should have drunk the water are missing the point, it is better to live a full life than an eternal one

This is why soulmates are so important in life. They don't have to be in our lives forever, but they are meant to open our eyes to what our hearts been missing.

The thing that always gets me is not that she chose to life a mortal life, its that after all that time and never seeing him again, all those years that passed where she grew up, got married, and had children of her own, that at the end of her life, she chose to be buried beneath that tree, his tree, so that in her death she would be with him forever.

She made the right choice... Living forever is the ultimate suffering never moving forward... never going to the other side. She made the right choice and lived a good life

Anyone else felt bad for him and wished she had drank from the spring

The defeated look he has when he sees her grave is heartbreaking because I think he thought that maybe he wouldn't have to be alone anymore...but he did take several decades for him to find her again. She would have been lonely had she drunken the spring and waited for him, not knowing if he'd actually come. I think part of him knew she wouldn't drink it, and maybe that's why it took him so long to come back (that and cities have changed so maybe it was hard to track her down anyway), but it is heartbreaking. But don't worry, tons of girl's in the 21st Century love the whole Immortal Guy idea XD

Do not fear death, but rather the unlived life. You don't have to live forever. You just have to live.

I love this movie. I was sad at first that winnie didn't live but if i was given that bid i can't say i wouldn't do the same as she did. Think of how much of a struggle it would be to live forever. Era's constantly changing, people you get to know and care for dying with time. Not to mention, The tuck's left when winnie was fifteen. You going to tell me it took jessy 40 plus years to get the idea that it was safe again? And for Winnie to have had to live all those years without any real reassurance that the tucks would return or that she wouldn't have a change of heart. I think it was ultimately a good choice for her to choose to live life.

what if when the camera was going up to the tree, Winnie was sitting there and saying HAHA GOTCHA!! my friend thought of that in class

The ending makes me so emotional cause the older she got she still never changed her mind to drink the water from the spring even till her last moment before death. She wanted one full meaningful life.Deep down were all scared of dying but I couldn’t imagine living forever life would become meaningless & there be to many changes & you would start to forget people over time that you met you wouldn’t cherish any moments with them .We are meant to loose the ones we love or we wouldn’t realize how important they are to us.

One of my favorite films ever. A small pearl, perhaps unknown to most. Every time I talk about it I get moved, and I get a little bit of sweet melancholy. Greetings from Italy friends ❤️

Jesse wishes that if he and his family were mortal again during the year they met Winnie, then he could have had a happy life with her. But he knows that he will be seventeen until the end of the world.

I’m a teacher & recently I read this book again from seeing it in the classroom. I read it years ago when I was in 4th grade. Still a favorite. The end scene of the movie gets me everytime but it’s the best ending. Winnie lived.
