Chester W. Nimitz, an illustrious American naval officer, a name that echoes through the annals of history as one of the greatest naval commanders in the United States, was born in Fredericksburg, Texas, on February 24, 1885. The Nimitz family was no stranger to military service, with his father and grandfather serving in the American Civil War, making it a well-entrenched tradition for the family. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1905, Nimitz set off on a path that would take him across the world, serving on various ships and being posted in a multitude of regions like the Philippines, Panama, and China.

As I write this it is 6/6/23 79 years after D Day, and just a couple of days removed from the Battle of Midway. I feel truly fortunate to have heard both my father in laws stories (USN WWII) but also those of my brothers father in law (USMC WWII) first hand. USS Nimitz was the first aircraft carrier I was ever on and it's truly a impressive machine, not sure if Admiral Nimitz ever saw it but what a tribute to a great man. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!
