Based. One of the best speeches in Swedish political history

I wish that I would be as calm and restrained when explaining why I am a Democratic Socialist, as I have a habit of raising my voice when explaining politics to people. I certainly respect him, and Sweden should as well. Instead of constantly thinking of new theories and conspiracies, just observe the man that was Olof Palme, and what he did for your beautiful country. He was taken far too quickly, but went to his grave as a Democratic Socialist, who should be remembered and learned from. 🌹🌹🌹✊🇸🇪

You can practically taste the anxiety as it rises in Fälldin’s mind.

What a great speech. It perfectly articulates the reasons I am also a democratic socialist.

If only we still had politicians of this caliber. How he would weep if he saw Sweden has become exactly what he warned us it could be, and in large part because of his own party too.

Respect and admiration for Olof Palme from a part of the world (Mexico) where democracy, well being, high quality social services, worker rights and more are still a distant dream (or even an alien concept), where we have been at the prey of many woeful right wing goverments and nowadays in the clutches of a populist parody. I openly and proudly say outloud: Im Democratic Socialist even if Im misunderstood and attacked by my fellow nationals. Even after all these years and distance apart he and your countries are a beacon of what can be done.

Rest in peace, Olof Palme. I'm a millennial from Italy. He was murdered in 1986 but his legacy of humanitarian principles and values like Internationalism, humanitarianism, peace, solidarity, egalitarianism will live forever and inspire generations to come to act for social progress. His principles are more needed than ever in today's world witnessing the rise of authoritarian, right-wing-neofascist parties everywhere. Thank You, Olof.

The man really puts together in a very concise way why Social Democracy/Democratic socialism is necessary. Because it's hard. It's harder to oppose capitalism and also call out communist totalitarianism. It's harder to say that there's nuance to how a country should run the markets rather than to say "free market good" or "free market bad". It's harder to stand on your own path as you defend your opponents right to be in a democracy knowing fully they won't do that for you. Because it's difficult to do the right thing. Because all the "easier", "short term" plans have failed. The right path it's the most difficult.

Describing problems or expressing goals do not determine ones political position. It is only the strategy of correcting the problems and achieving goals that determine ones political position.

SOCIALISM, in all of its various forms, boiled down.
.
Spoiler: The choice of a political /economic system is not, by itself, a stable solution to the control of money-in-politics.
.
Socialism comes in several versions with a much debated and complex history. Much controversy in socialism is generated by a blurring of the terms falling under the categories of "problems, goals, and solutions." Socialism is one, possible solution.
.
Our political /economic system, having gone through a period of being a more free-market capitalism, has now become a runaway, monopoly capitalism. Recognizing the excesses of runaway monopoly capitalism does not, by itself alone, make one a socialist. The same can be said for choosing one’s goals.
.
The solution one chooses in reaching one's political goals determines one’s political label. Socialism is one of several suggested pathways to fixing the problem of runaway, monopoly capitalism.
.
.
.
.
.
Corporations are economic tools of capitalism created by the state that have become unregulated and corrupted by money-in-politics. Corporations are much like a dog off of its leash; it's not the fault of the dog if it messes on your lawn.
