Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band ~ California Strut 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

"California Strut" is an original Walter Murphy song that was the B side of his #1 hit single, "A Fifth Of Beethoven". It caught my attention after I played the A side and it has stayed with me ever since. There is something about this song that makes me feel like I heard the melody before, but I can't place it. Someday I will figure why I never get tired of it...it sounds a bit like Van McCoy with the xylophone and horns though but it seems to echo a 60's song.

It has this bright hustle beat and minimal vocals which would have made it an instrumental except for the bridge which I worked in a second time to help it breathe a bit. It will never top the charts, but it is an interesting tune that embodies the disco spirit, with the 4/4 beat and those lovely strings! Happy Summer!
