Sri Gurubhyonamaha.
We offer our Namaskarams to Maha Vidwan and respected Guru, the late Calcutta Sri K.S. Krishnamurti on his birth centenary year.

In the mid-nineties we were looking to expand our repertoire from a senior musician and Guru. At the advice of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri Sanjay Subrahmanyan, we called his Guru Sangeetha Kala Acharya Calcutta Sri K S Krishnamurti. Sri KSK, as he is fondly known, who readily agreed to teach us.

With a training grant from The Australia Council for the Arts, we landed in Chennai to learn from KSK Sir in December 1996. We had classes everyday. Sir was a very diligent teacher who gauged the student’s capabilities and adapted his teaching method accordingly. He also provided notations for every kriti he taught us. We still reminisce about our classes with KSK sir; his crystal clear voice, great depth and handling of complex phrases with so much ease.

During this period he even made time to attend one of our concerts for Parthasarathy Swami Sabha and meticulously went through our performance the next day, offering us valuable critique.

At the end of our assignment, when we said our goodbyes, Sir insisted we have a meal at his house. That afternoon KSK sir regaled us with his wonderful experience in Chidambaram during his college days at the Annamalai University learning from stalwarts like Tiger Varadacharyar and Muthiah Bhagavantar, his teaching years in Calcutta and so on. Mami served us a sumptuous meal with genuine affection.

We are ever grateful to Sri KSK Sir for enriching our repertoire. On his Centenary, we offer our humble tribute with a composition we learnt from him.
