Sophia Smith's second half goal gave the United States Olympic Women’s Soccer Team a win over regional rivals Mexico in a pre-Olympic friendly at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J..

The Americans carried the play and outshot the visitors, 17-3, but had to wait for the breakthrough until almost 20 minutes elapsed in the second half. Once earned, however, that advantage was never threatened as the USA eased to its third victory in three games under coach Emma Hayes.

That Rose pass to Rodman on that right wing is so beautiful to see...it opens up the field and allows the forwards to score

I'm sorry to hear Catarina Macario is hurt. I was really looking forward to her playing with our women's team in the Olympics. Let's hope her knee heals timely, soccer later.

Rose is involved almost in every attack in this highlight. She is the smartest player in this team

Rodman/Smith/Swanson all going forward together looks a deadly combo for the opponents of they can get the kinks worked out

Sophia Smith is at another level, and Mallory Swanson has been in another level since last year. The USWNT is insanely fantastic right now, all of them.

The USWNT still has much to work on, especially on the basics, like loose passes and bad touches. We start playing better in the 60th minute. The patience on the attacking third to pass the ball is a breath of fresh air.

Great performance. Should have had 3, but creating lots of great chances is a fantastic sign.

The U.S. still has the same issue, scoring. This game should have been at least 3-0. Their passing especially out of the back was a little bit crazy and sloppy at times. I attended the game and it’s was insanely hot. I will never understand why it was not played at night.

We have got to stop having home field advantage friendlies or tournaments with the same Sourth or North American teams. The USWNT need to play more European teams (friendlies) in Europe, not the bottom teams either; The Big Boys: Germany, Spain, England and France.

Great game ... HORRIBLE event. Red Bull Stadium seems like a nice facility ... but we were in traffic outside an hour before kickoff and STILL missed the start because of the utter lack of parking; we had to park over a mile away and walk. Then multiple concession stands out of water on a KNOWN heat advisory day, with zero supplemental cooling stations provided. The shockingly empty stands after the half are due to the absolute crush of people still in the concourse trying to find some relief from the heat. If the stadium wants to host events like this, they better damn well prepare for them.

If the fans were burning hot, I can just imagine the players 🤯. Been to concerts and Nascar like that, not these days whew! Well done ladies 🙌

they look so much more dangerous -- just a few finishes away from 2-3 more goals

To see US playing in a US-pro crowd in Harrison New Jersey in contrast to the pro-Mexico crowd in LA has not been more sweeter. Barely winning 1-0 vs Mexico was intense but Sophia Smith had several chances in the game to make it at least 3-0 shows me and the other US fans that USWNT have to capitalize on their scoring and need to work more on putting more bodies on the box. They have depth but for me relying too much on the kids and new players with almost no veterans means not having the leadership and expereince they need on the field, I'm not asking to put 11 32 year old plus players but at least a captain who is hard working and can transition quickly and pass the ball great. I'm not sure what you all think about Lindsey Horan if she deserves to be call
