The part that makes this kinda screwed more than it actually is is that Scarlett Witch is Magneto's actual child. Let that sink in he views mutants as his children and was willing to kill his actual child who is a mutant. In dark humor terms that's child killing squared.

I don't think it's accurate to say Magneto truly views mutantkind as his children. His ego (re: God complex) might crave that level of mutual love shared between father and his children, but he doesn't really love them. He wants to guide them, keep them safe, and be seen as the God he wants to be. The fact that he readily agreed to sacrificing his own daughter for the greater good of the world...traditionally there's only one major example of someone sacrificing their child for the salvation of the world. And let's face facts, to label Magneto's history of emotional regard to Pietro and Wanda as stoic is being very generous. He cares more about his cause and the triumph of homo superior than he does his literal children.

See my interpretation of Logan not being affected was that his deepest desire was to remember, because of how much he had forgotten.

The thing is that giving everyone their deepest wishes is there to make it hard for the person to escape. Because why would you want to escape a paradise?

The issue is that Logan's deepest wish is that he wanted to remember what he had forgotten, and that's what spurred him to get everyone on board with leaving the Lotus-Eater Machine.
