I am 73 years old, and measles were a very dangerous disease. It was in the summer in Oklahoma before air conditioning. We lived on a farm, and the doctor came to the house daily to visit me. I was kept in a dark room for weeks. They tried to keep me cool. Aspirin was the only medication then. I was seriously ill and became anemic after the measles. The first time I had my blood drawn. I remember it all vividly. They had look at a calendar on the wall with Lassie's picture.. in wasn't that bad. Doctor nailed a quarantine sign on our door no one was allowed in. Measles was dangerous then and children died from it. Things were primitive back then. Not a disease to mess around with..

I can't imagine willingly letting my child be miserable for upwards of 2 weeks

My middle child got measles basically while he was just getting over German measles. He had a fever of 104° F (40°C). I strongly BELIEVE in getting my children vaccinated as well as keeping mine up to date. At the time, children weren't offered rubella vaccination and I couldnt understand why his German measles went on so long and why he was so sick. I was told later that sometimes the vaccine doesn't take well or maybe it wasn't stored properly. I still have no idea why but rhankfully he recovered fine. GET YOUR CHILDREN VACCINATED! Measles can sometimes kill and measles-induced encephalitis is not a joke. Children can convulse and be left with brain damage. It's rare but who wants to chance that?

I'm on this app for Mom's and it is absolutely ridiculous reading all the people's posts about not wanting to vaccinate their child. I have to refrain from just losing my mind on these people. My son was behind on his vaccines because the clinic ran out and then I wasn't able to get in for 2 months and I felt awful the entire time and now that he's up to date I feel a little less bad but I still get bad looks from the doctor all the time

The vacine was not available when I was growing up. Many of my school mates including myself. Came down with it. Many have scars from the rash. And damaged organs from the high fever. That was left untreated. Its like playing russian roulette with a loaded gun. 😢

please do a video on what is the worst case scenario for measles. I remember in the 70s kids often went blind.. but modern mums seem to think its nothing more than a rash.

I just hope ppl start to take science seriously again and vaccinate their children.

Work in a pharmacy in Germany and we also have those who even bring their measles spreading children in and when you tell them to go to the doc they go nuts 😭

Born in 1957. Got measles when I was 6. I was so sick. Worst thing I remember was the photophobia. Could not stand having a light on!

I had them for two weeks as a child and it was horrible. It's not a mild illness! Get your children vaccinated, please!

Thank you for explaining it in a simply way people can understand, even if they think it’s “fake”

I had the German measles (now called rubella) and shortly there after, the “hard” measles…. The sickest I’ve ever been. I also got chickenpox…. And, of course, decades later, shingles. Anti vaxers make my head and heart hurt. Especially the ones in my family.

I had measles before I was vaccinated. I was to young so I didn’t remember it. I have read that measles is linked to diseases later in life.

I was vaccinated for everything possible and so are my kids. People who don’t vaccinate are from the generation that didn’t lose classmates and now think those diseases are not a big deal.

I think it’s my duty to be vaccinated to protect those who can’t (yet).

Not measles but I recently learned my oldest was never vaxxed for polio! He’s been walking around the earth for seven years and could have caught it. I have no idea why his peds office didn’t give it to him. We left that practice when he was 9 months old and he’s had his doses now but wow, feeling grateful he didn’t contract it before now.

Don't forget the horrible (neurological) complications including SSPE that especially those who catch measls when they're very young can suffer from.

I'm a Spanish interpreter for a hospital, this was so useful, thank you!

When I accepted a position working for a hospital they ran a MMR (MEASLES, MUMPS AND RUBELA) titer level on me. It indicated I didn't have adequate immunity to rubela so I had to get the MMR.

I had contracted chicken pox TWICE, once when I was 18 months old (my older sisters both had CP and I had a very mild case). The 2nd time was for my 21st birthday! I worked in a grocery store and a lady came through my checkout with her sick kid! About 2 weeks later I had a full blown case of chicken pox!!
Years later (in my 40's) I had a VERY mild case of shingles and refused to consider having shingles again so I made sure to get the Shingles vaccine! Shingles was a pain I NEVER want to go through again and NEITHER SHOULD YOU!!

I just wanna put this out here, measles spreads easier than coughing or sneezing, just breathing is enough to transmit it
