See this is what more studios should do. Remaster the classics in 4K and release them in theaters. Its a great way to get the younger generation into the movies with out doing a remake or a reboot.

For a film that is considered “the toughest shoot in film history”, THE ABYSS is a visual masterpiece!

The music by Alan Silvestri is worth a mention, it's absolutely fantastic whether it's atmosphere / tension building, or when it becomes exciting during action scenes, or when the tone becomes dramatic / emotional. That finale is spine-tingling and worth buying the soundtrack for alone.

Ed Harris was absolutely phenomenal! The scene where he saves his wife is out of this world performance!

Still remember seeing this on opening day in 1989. When credits rolled, the only sound you could hear was the entire audience crying. Absolute masterpiece and stunning achievement.

Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio should have each won an Oscar for their roles in this film. They were subjected to things that no actor should EVER be asked to do, yet they managed to deliver performances that still evoke the same kind of emotion to this very day.

Wednesday. August 9, 1989. I was just a teen when this movie came out. It was an amazing experience. Coincidentally, there were already two underwater sci-fi movies that came before it, Leviathan and Deep Star Six. Both films were flops. The Abyss was also a financial flop but it was a critical success amongst movie critics. It would later go on to receive four Academy award nominations but only won the Oscar for best visual effects. It also won the Saturn award for best music. It had a beautiful theme song.

For me, this is the best James Cameron movie ever made. Ahead of its time. Can't get enough of The Abyss. A classic masterpiece.

From a time when movies meant something, and writing had intelligence and people actually tried to make something good. What a masterpiece. One of my all time faves.

I remember watching this in The West End, London during its premier. I walked out of the theater totally awestruck, turned around and walked back in to watch it again. A fantastic film.

This is one of those movies that shaped who I am as a person and catapulted me into love for science fiction and even the elusive concept of love. One of the best movies I have ever seen.

I love this film. One of Cameron's most underappreciated flicks in my opinion.

Lindsey's sacrifice, Virgil's descent, Coffey's turn.... I could go on!!! Absolute masterpiece of the 80's that still lives up today! Only beaten by 'Aliens'
