Decoding glycans in ricin toxicity

The plant toxin ricin is one of the most poisonous naturally occurring proteins, making it an extremely dangerous bioweapon. Researchers at the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) have discovered a means of immunising cells against the biological weapon ricin, as reported in Cell Research and Nature 2017.
