He was not a slave. He had a trade skill. Most likely he came up from an apprenticeship to journeyman and member of a guild. A Freemason in good standing.

I didn't see the reason Henry Boyed created the counter top barrier 🤔a drunk person entered the store of the white man he worked for and was drunk & disorderly. He charged the owner thus the barrier between owner/employee for safety precautions. Then the chances of coming over the counter top was less likely. Thank Goodness Boyed was able to eventually build hus business but look at how he was treated for being a BLACK INTELLIGENT MAN😢😢what a price he had to pay because of HATE😢😢
