Fast Cap Hole Saw Quick Mandrel Review

If you have ever used hole saws, then you understand the frustration of ensuring you have a mandrel that works with the needed hole saw bit. The Quick Mandrel has three jaws in the center of the mandrel, surrounding the pilot bit. Pressing a hole saw bit onto the Quick mandrel, the center jaws easily fit in the center hole of the hole saw. Two opposing pins 180-degrees apart align fit through the like holes in the hole saw. Once seated, a quick 1/8th turn counter-clockwise spreads the three jaws in the middle and locks the hole saw in place on the Quick Mandrel.

When using several different bits by different manufacturers, drilling holes in metal and wood, we didn't notice any wobble or slop with the mandrel. With a price of only $19.95, the hole saw Quick Mandrel by Fast Cap could pay for itself quickly, in lack of frustration alone.

I got one of these for Christmas and was disappointed that the pilot bit wobbled. The triangular bit is held in by a set screw on one of the triangle points with the opposing flat 'holding' it in place. Except the bit fits loosely so it would not stay in place. Result = wobble. (If the set screw was on a flat with the opposing two flats holding the bit in place the problem would be solved.) I called FastCap and they sent out a replacement which did the same thing. When I called them about the second one, they didn't want me to send either back to them. I went with Milwaukee. Result = no wobble.

I've seen 2 different people bring this into work brand new thinking they had something special. 1 got totally jacked up by drywall dust drilling over head. the other one bent the pilot bit when the hole saw bit into some metal. than the bit broke while trying to straighten it back out. I've seen every gimmicky hole saw system and have yet to see one that works well out in the field
