How to make a perennial flower meadow (in a small space)

We are lucky enough to have a front garden, but we don’t have much time or money to spend on it, so it’s generally a bit of a mess! A few years ago, we decided to plant into the grass (which is actually a fine healthy mixture of grasses, yarrow, dandelions, ox eye daisies), and just give it a yearly cut with a path mown through the middle.
Last year we put in Marjoram, ox eye daisies, cowslips, crocus, native daffodils and cranesbill (hardy geranium). I noticed that some allium ‘spherocephalon’ had seeded from a nearby flower bed, so this year I decided to deliberately plant lots more, along with chives, campanula, more marjoram, and some upright white comfrey. All of these plants came from cuttings or self sets, so this has just cost us less than a sack of compost and a couple of hours. I would like to add in some knapweed, yellow rattle and ragged robin when I get hold of some next year.

Our pollinators are losing forage and habitat so quickly. - it seems a good thing to try to make a tiny difference if you can!

How lovely that your neighbors cannot see your front yard so you can just enjoy it as you like!
