ROTOR PUZZLE SOLUTION

Today we're going to go through the Hanayama Rotor puzzle solution.

Before we start, this is an incredibly hard puzzle to solve and even with this solution, it's still going to take some work on your part to get the Rotor solution.

The hardest part of the Rotor puzzle solution is that you have to figure out where you currently are (because the chances are you're not at the start or the end or even on the route you're about to see) and then work your way to a position that is on the solution you'll see here.

Hopefully that'll make more sense in the video.

Once you're on the path, this cast Rotor puzzle solution is still fairly tough to follow, my hope is that keeping the gold piece still and only moving the silver piece makes it as easy to follow as possible.

If you have any questions or would like help with something (relating to the rotor puzzle solution lol), comment below and I'll do what I can to help.

Enjoy the Hanayama Cast Rotor puzzle solution!

Thanks Ross!
I'm a retired 62 year old man and do enjoy my Hanayama puzzles. I amassed 50 of them over the years and only solved about a dozen by myself and 5 with your help.
I just finished disassembling the Rotor, having to slow the video down to .5 speed and hit rewind for some moves.
I'll take a break now and try to reassemble it, again with your help.
Thanks again for posting all your helpful videos.

Ps- Could you direct me to the best place to purchase some hard to find puzzles.
I'm in the US and they are pretty hard to find. ✌🏻

Tip: play this video at 0.5 speed. Thanks, i found assembly it back almost as hard as solving it. Even with your video haha, but playing it at 0.5 speed helped a lot.

Many thanks for your very nice video and clear instructions - well done with a challenging puzzle - as always key to solving any puzzles it is important to identify specific landmarks and to move one piece relative to the other - beautifully illustrated here

I would like to add that the real "magic" or trick in the puzzle design is in recognising there are 2 sides adjacent to each of the Mercedes Benz "spikes" on the perimeter - although you did not make a point of this because it is perhaps obvious to you, in fact it is absolutely critical that whenever the silver rotor passes through the gold rotor it must be done using the correct side - you will know immediately if you used the correct side because if you used the wrong side the puzzle essentially jams up, but when you use the correct side the silver rotor easily rotates in its own plane 60 to 90 degrees, and there is tremendous freedom of movement so that the puzzle can continue to be manipulated without any force - this is the little special thing that was glossed over in the video, but once you appreciate this and pay attention to that detail in the technique the puzzle can then be solved

Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation!

Hi Ross, do you have any idea what move would or could invert the silver rotor. The current orientation of the silver rotor is upside down. Please help!!

I was so lost, needed some guidance to solve. I was at the point that i lined up the end move but upside down. Couldn't figure out how to flip it the right way around. Recently started with hanayama puzzles. Salmon river medaillon, the caged puzzle, the ufo, and the rotor. With the ufo i was lucky, the rotor one is though. Looking forward to add more. Really enjoy fidgeting with these puzzles.

This video is useless if your puzzle doesn’t move the that starting area like that. I can get I’m lined up perfectly expect the opp silver arm to line rest above instead Of bellow. I’ve played with if for about three hours and it doesn’t configure the other way you showed

I have had this puzzle for 3 months, trying maybe an hour a day, but getting nowhere.

My starting position is not like when the puzzle is new, so ||I cannot follow your solution.
Once or twice I thought my position exactly matched one of your steps...step 4 and step 9.

What I found is that is was still not possible to do the next move, which means it probably
was not an exact match.

Do I understand this correctly? From any position, it is always possible to do one and only one move?
By that I mean one possible move per color? Or does this mean that smoetime you can pass the silver
opening over the gold, and it may also be possible to pass a gold eopening over the silver?

This wouls imply at any point there are 2 possible moves, and i
f it can be solved in 10 moves
that would be 2 to the tenth power
