preview_player
Показать описание
Virtual field trip to the Ka'u Desert near the Kilauea crater on the big island of Hawaii. We'll see the recent lava flows (250 years old and younger), now covered partially by ash and Pele's hair from the nearby eruption of the Halema'uma'u vent. We review the processes that form volcanic glass, ash, and Pele's Hair during eruptions.

Towards the end of the video I did notice some sparse vegetation among the Pele's hair and the ash. The natural world is so powerful and majestic - even when it might be a desert of glass- that it ought to be venerated and not destroyed by mankind.
