The senate passed a bill requiring women to register for the draft. Should we expand the draft? [In which case, do you agree with Kevin’s “female draft picks?” Lyanna Mormont, anyone?] Or end the draft and let everyone choose whether they want to serve? Watch and tell us in the comments!

We the Internet's a comedy news channel. It's like watching the news -- only intentionally funny.

Female draft should have been implemented as soon as women got to vote. The very reason ancient Athens was a (male-only) democracy while Sparta was ruled solely by affluent aristocrats was that Athens required large amounts of common men to be drafted to row the gallies while Sparta's land-based army could only use well-trained and well-equipped aristocrats (the only ones who could acquire the wealth to buy fighting equipment while spending their time training rather than working the land). The entitlement to run a nation came forth from the duty to defend it. This duty belonged to those who were able to enact it. Only aristocrats made for useful hoplites, all men were of use as rowers and now the focus has shifted from melee to ranged combat and the piloting of vehicles, all adults have become useful. Now that women have the entitlement to rule a nation and the ability to defend it, their duty to do so should follow.

As a veteran I completely agree with this. We should have never been exempt.

Women should have to register for the selective service act. For starters, you won't have to worry about actually being drafted unless something BIG happens, in which case A) we'll need it, and B) you shouldn't have any problem serving anyway.Furthermore, roughly 9/10 people in a modern military serve in non-combat roles (ie cooks, truck drivers, office workers etc), so both the physical strength and safety arguments are stupid. Finally, if ALL women (and not just mothers, wives and girlfriends) have a personal stake in it, maybe they'll try that much harder to ensure a hypothetical draft never happens.

If a time of war came about where our country was in sever need then we'd need it. Whether it's bad enough to put them in now is irrelevant. Just because it's not raining right now doesn't mean you won't need an umbrella later.

As soon as this issue comes up, women be like "End the draft, end the draft, end the draft". You didn't want to end it in 1939 when Hitler rolled into Poland, you didn't want to end it in '55 when Ali went to prison for not going to Vietnam and you didn't want to end it in 2017 until this news came out and all of a sudden, manspreading isn't quite so important

I don't like the idea of a draft period regardless of gender. Not everyone is meant for military duty.

It's about time. Women want to be treated equal but don't want the responsibilities that comes with being treated like men. If men have to register for the draft women should to.

There is no draft, currently. The law only creates a pool of potential draftees. assuming it is the same law that applied when I had to register with selective service. I could have refused, and can think of at least three instances where that choice would have closed options that I was later able to take in life. As to the question about women registering, equality means taking the responsibilities along with the benefits of being an American. If those responsibilities are rejected by women, then they themselves are declaring women to be second class citizens.

For me personally, individual choice is the best way to go. No man or woman should be forced to fight in a war they want no part in.

I don't think so of you know how the draft works. NOT EVERYONE REGISTERED FOR THE DRAFT GETS Its more like drawing a lottery. with multiple people having the same number, if your number is drawn you would need to join in the military. So all the people saying that there would be no one to manufacture and produce, that's completely wrong.

Did she just casually call him a beta male for playing video games and not wanting to die on her behalf in a foreign war? What does that make her for not wanting to fight for her privileges? Simply entitled.
