Brian, as a newcomer to fly fishing, i have immersed myself in introductory videos, but yours is, hands down, the best I have found. It is superbly produced, and your instruction is crystal clear. You are clearly an excellent teacher, and I genuinely have a better understanding of the basic cast technique. I look forward to watching all of your materials. Thank you for a great product.

I live in New Zealand, and have been fly fishing for over 45 years, after being taught by a late friend who was one of the best guides in the country. I've even tried to teach a few friends how to cast, some with success, and others not so good. With all my experience, I must say that this is THE BEST explanation and demonstration of the mechanics of fly fishing I've EVER seen!! Thanks Brian, even I got quite a bit out of this video!! Sometimes, early in the season, my casting can be a bit crappy, so I'll look at your videos and be instantly cured!! GREAT video!!

I've been an outdoorsman for over 50 years. Camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, you name it. The one thing I haven't tried is fly-fishing. I bought a combo kit a few years ago and it's been in my rod rack ever since. I just watched this whole series and have to say, Brian this is the best informative, instructional/educational series I've ever watched. Now I'm anxious to get out and try it. Thanks!

Brian. Can't thank you enough!!! As previously mentioned by so many others, the way you break it down is absolutely amazing. I watched and took notes, and gradually bought my rod, reel and line when I was confident enough after watching and re-watching, and moved forward from there. I'm still learning so much and I will definitely keep watching to learn more. I'm from South Africa, so I was one of those who believed it was an expensive sport but with your guidance, learnt how to approach looking and buying the right equipment. I can't thank you enough!!!!

My father taught me to fly fish beginning at age 4 in a Jon boat. He had me place my arm on my knee and use my wrist. 53 years later, I can still hear his encouragement as I cast. Thank you for these great vids! I’m watching because I’m moving into saltwater fly fishing. Learning much!

This is by far the best casting video I have watched, like having a personal casting instructor.

I am a complete newbie to fly fishing and this series was probably the best and down to earth fly fishing tutorials I’ve seen. Everything else tries to sell you stuff or give u a big list on what I need but this was just basics and I loved it! Thank you!!!

I have watched many videos about fly fishing and fly tying but I have to say that without a doubt you provide the best instruction I have seen so far. You take out the intimidation of this and don't make it seem like an arduous task. Thank you so much for the time you take in putting this instructive videos together and I look forward to hopefully one day making it down to Mad River Outfitters sometime in the future.

Just wanted to post my week:

Monday - bought my first fly rod

Tuesday - assembled it and bull whipped my front yard and threw some lumped up line on the ground

Tuesday night - discovered this video

Wednesday - threw an actual cast and worked some serious 10-1 action.

Thank you so much for this.

As a new member to project healing waters (fly fishing) through the VA; this is an awesome video to share with my fellow vets! Clear, concise and easy to Semper Fi!

So I last week I went to Colorado outside of Estes Park to go fishing with some friends. They were going to fly fish and I had never cast a fly rod. So I went and bought a cheap Shakespeare combo kit. I searched YouTube and found your lessons and watched the 1st 14 videos and then practiced your casting techniques for about 30 minutes in my front yard.

Long story short, I had an amazing time fishing and my friends didn't believe I had never cast a fly rob before! Thank you for taking the time to post these videos. I'm a fan.

Brian.... You are the BEST instructor I have seen on YouTube - this video and the content is the BEST ever - I am taking two old University friends (we are all 62 now..) who want to develop their fly fishing skills (as both are novices) away for a weekend to trout lakes I am a member at here in North Yorkshire (England), and I have sent both the link to this video, and told them "STOP watching all the other instructional videos on how to cast, and WATCH this over and over again... THEN get out and practice!" It is simply the gold standard for me - each morning before we set out to the lakes, I'm going to show this video over breakfast as a recap. I'm no genius myself, but I've fly fished regularly for 4 years now, and I wish I'd seen THIS video when I started... Absolutely fantastic! And your accent is great too - very easy to listen to... THANK YOU!!

After trying fly fishing at a buddy's cottage a few weeks back, it was safe to say that I was hooked. But trying to read through complicated "manuals" and guides was making learning the sport far too tedious. Your series has proved that does not have to be the case - after watching your videos I feel more confident and ready to learn more about this amazing sport. Thank you.

This is actually the first fly fishing video I’ve watched and I can already tell I started at the top! What a first place, top notch and well explained tutorial, thank you!

Not only I congratulate you for making such an excellent video but also thank you for taking the time to teach and encourage newcomers like myself to the world of fly fishing. I have been fishing spinning & baitcasting reels for long time, but I promise a dear late friend and fishing buddy that I will learn how to fly fish in memory of the great times we spent together enjoying the outdoors. This is a good beginning. Thank you.

Brian - For a long time I’ve wanted to go fly fishing but was intimidated when going into a fishing shop… not just from price but for guys talking down or being pushy with the $400 plus half and full day “experiences.” I just wanted to start and try it on my own first. So… I went fly fishing for the first time yesterday with my brand new TFO 5wt/9ft combo outfit. Within 15 minutes I caught my first fish ever! I didn’t catch another fish but that’s OK. No pun intended but I’m hooked! I have enjoyed your series a great deal and it has been very helpful. I did in fact lose two flies yesterday and after watching this video I bet I know why. So, I’m going to go out and try again today while making the local retailer that much more financially successful in my purchase of a few additional flies! Thanks again for your help in me getting started in fly fishing and also not solving the national debt in the process! I now have something I can do with my sons that they enjoy so much as well. Your videos are better than all the rest of them out there put together! 🎣

Just picked up fly fishing this year after putting it off for years of wanting to learn. This series seriously helped me so much! I’ve been enjoying it more and more everytime I get out. Appreciate everything you guys do! 🙏🎣

Great series - I found myself confused by your 10:00 to 1:00 scenario until about halfway through the video because the camera is looking at your rod from a different angle than you are. It eventually made sense though ;)

This video finally got me over the hump on my casting! Seriously been struggling for years. Watched this video, went out in my backyard and laid out the most beautiful cast I've ever done. I showed it to my son and he went out, first time ever casting a fly rod and nailed it! The tricks and visualizing are what made the difference. So cool!
