Played planetside 1 for 7-8 years, Never got bored of it, its a completely different experience to any other FPS. It's highly addictive, and once you understand the basics of the game, (platoon, outfit) play, you wont have stalemate battles, you can swoop in with multiple galaxies, stealth teams, max crashes. There is so much variation to how you can actually play this game. It is highly recommended that you join a Outfit, and experience group play in this game, you will have the best memories.

Big battles with a few hundred players, with CQC and long distance, infantry and vehicle skirmishes, in the middle of the night, with all those flashy (specially) shots flying around, IS FREAKING AWESOME. The first time I played one, I knew this was the perfect game for me. :D I totally recommend it, playing since Beta, and not leaving any soon.

Yes. Search how to #1 turn shadows off, #2 decrease render distance to just above where the furthest models render (e, g 1000), #3 all settings high if you've a decent rig (lower settings actually decrease your fps) and #4 turn off flora rendering.

1. Navigate to your PlanetsSide 2 installation directory: right click your PS2 icon, go to properties, and click on open file location.
2. Open up your UserOptions.ini file in your PlanetSide 2 directory with notepad.
3. Change ShadowQuality to ShadowQuality=0.
4. Change RenderDistance to RenderDistance=1000
5. Change FloraQuality to FloraQuality=0.
4. Click Save.
5. Launch PlanetSide 2.

It actually does have bullet drop, you can C4 a tank while jetpacking(Which replaces parachutes because parachutes are outdated in the game and primitive compared to jetpacks. Parachutes make you an easy target because you fall VERY slow.), and not to mention they can't rig the graphics so high because it already requires a high RAM and good processing speed with all the players, tanks, gun/plasma shots, explosions, etc. that will be going off all at once or very close in between eachother.

I run my game on high with shadows and flora on low with no difficulty, 60-70 outside large battles, 30ish in large battles....such a great game. So many "This is epic" moments - but ONLY if you're running with an outfit and people that you know have your back.

I play this game a lot and haven't had many problems with lag, this is from an Australian player who's used to dealing with 300ms upwards on most games, the response is good on this, either you've chosen the wrong region to connect to, your own service and modem is to slow, or your not talking about response lag but fps lag and that is because your computer is not good enough to play it well.

Choosing the servers doesn't actually matter since everyone is sort of joined up. If you can't log in to your normal server, it's okay to choose a different one and log in through that. It should be the same experience as choosing your normal server. Or that's how it is for me, and that's what the work around was when the login error happened.

The minimum requirements need 4 gigs of ram, and recommended is 8 - so many have less than that, and optimization has improved a lot since beta just a few months ago. Recommended specs are usually conservative too - here's the thing: this game is supposed to last roughly 10 years, and have an engine that can compete. The highest settings in the game still aren't the highest it can handle - they shut off ultra settings for now.

For all of you guys asking for optimization, the issue isn't graphics, it's object tracking data. The game is cpu bound because it has to keep track of every person, vehicle, bullet, dropped item, explosion radius, etc.. going on within like 600m of your character all the time. If you are not running a fairly hot i5 or i7 equivalent processor no amount of graphics scaling is going to help. Its the nature of the game, not so much poor optimization.

They're actively optimizing it all thee time. Back when I got it in beta (4 monthes ago) I was running it at 15-20 fps during big fights, now after launch I'm running it at 25-30 fps and there are probably more people playing now than then. I'd call that pretty significant optimization. ;3

This game is amazing, i have a high end pc and it looks incredible for a f2p game. its like bf3 graphics + halo + mag (which was pretty bad but it held the highest amount of players on at one time with 356) and im looking forward to more updates with new items and add in some new continents perhaps.
