I'm glad to see somebody's actually raising awareness about fake cards instead of just buying them to post opening videos, thanks for the awesome video!

The black line is actually a very thin piece of plastic inserted into the middle of the card and runs more than just the center. WOTC uses the same type of plastic in magic cards but it's blue instead.

I bought a fake pack one time from Target because I noticed it had a different look to the colors of the pack art, realized when I opened it that they were fake. :( Now it makes me wonder if people buy packs from stores, buy fake packs online, then go return the fakes and keep the real packs. O_O

When I would go to the Toys R Us events with my little brother, I would make sure to check all his potential trades. One kid had a secret rare M Charizard EX from Flashfire and I could instantly tell it was fake. I had a hard time deciding if I should tell this random kid he had a fake or to just let him enjoy it.

A booster box of fake cards are $15 I think parents see that on eBay and such and think they’re getting a deal for their kids.

Good vid! Good to get the knowledge out there so kids aren't getting ripped off buying these, or even trading with friends!

I would like to say thank you for posting this. I was that guy who went on wish.com and paid just shipping on some pokemon cards and found out by watching your video that the cards are fake :( Thank you for the good knowledge.

Thank you Mikey for posting this. I'm going through a bunch of a friend's cards with her and attempting to sort the real ones from the fakes, and this was a great help c:

This is definitely a video that needed to be on such a popular channel. I hated to see the fake booster packs for $1 at the flea market. But honestly, not all the cards at the flea market are fake. I used to visit several vendors that sold completely genuine single cards. Even so, I wouldn't recommend it to the younger audience that doesn't know the difference. It was several years ago, I was browsing through the binder at one vendor, and two little kids came up and were showing off their fake EXs. I told them they were fake and why, but they didn't really understand. It's too bad.

I buy a lot of Pokemon lots on eBay and I actually get a lot of fake Pokemon cards mixed in with the real ones. I'm not too mad though because if it's fake and Holo I put it on my wall. I currently have half of my wall filled with damaged and fake cards

It's interesting how most of these fake booster packs also come with evolution lines instead of random Pokémon.

One of my son's friends gave him a big old stack of fake cards for his birthday, having no idea they were fake. Told my son to just smile and thank him. I had no idea what to say. I let the kid's mother know, but she seemed apathetic.

I went to a flea market once and this chick was selling fake Pokémon merch (cards, phone charms blah blah) and I looked down at this registeel ex/gx and it's so clearly fake. The holo is terrible (it was like this weird rainbowy effect holo, like the holos in evolutions but like all over the card) and I'm like "dude that's fake" and she was so offended and was like "no it's not" and I tried to tell her again but she was so certain on these ultra rare (there was like 30 in the whole display case) were real so I just let it go.
Also these phone charms.. oh my god I've never seen a Pokémon so degraded and insulted in my life. There was a scolipede that was sleeping(or dead) and a shiny misdreavus that was just ready to die.
The funny thing was... she was selling card sleeves. From ACTUAL Pokémon trainer boxes. So she clearly knew it she was running a scam and I hate her I never wanna see her again.
I actually thought about buying the scolipede charm to give it the care it deserves but I was too bitter

Also there was a bin of fake Pokémon figures (not with the girl, just left in a bin all alone) and there was a white washed heatmor, a real shady looking chimchar, and a venipede that looked ready to die just like its final evolution that the chick had captured.
It was quite the adventure

Knowing a bit about graphic design can help find the fakes. For example the pokemom logo on the legit box is nice and centred and not covered by anything, yet the logo on the fake box is off centre and covered. Think from a marketing point; you want artwork to look clean and beautiful as well as any text being legible.
