The tomato (see pronunciation) is the edible, red fruit of Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant, which belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The species originated in Central and South America. The Nahuatl (Aztec language) word tomatl gave rise to the Spanish word "tomate", from which the English word tomato originates.

Numerous varieties of tomato are widely grown in temperate climates across the world, with greenhouses allowing its production throughout the year and in cooler areas. The plants typically grow to 1–3 meters (3–10 ft) in height and have a weak stem that often sprawls over the ground and vines over other plants. It is a perennial in its native habitat, and grown as an annual in temperate climates. An average common tomato weighs approximately 100 grams (4 oz).
Its use as a food originated in Mexico, and spread throughout the world following the Spanish colonization of the Americas.

My brother in law harvested about 30lbs of these from his garden and gave me a bag. OMG!! These tomatoes were off the hook!! Far, and I mean no comparison far better than any store bought varieties. Sweet, juicy, so superior and just amazing on a sandwich with mayo

Vine ripe black Krim on two pieces of fresh Squaw bread, mayo on both sides with two slices of thick cut bacon and shredded sharp cheddar, salt and pepper and you got one of the best damn sandwiches ever.
Ya gotta try it

Unique flavor and taste, and also the plant grows strong and it didn't needed chemicals for diseases!

I made some salsa with tomatoes my wife grew that turned out so sweet and flavorful, I wanted to know which variety these strange looking (dark green irregular tops, dark reddish-brown bottoms often with "navels") but delicious fruits were. My wife didn't remember, and the garden store wasn't much help either. Picking the very last of them (in October in central coastal California), I found a name stake mostly buried in the dirt that ID'd them as Black Krim. They have to be among the tastiest I've ever had, and I'm in my sixties. The vine-ripened fruits were very sweet, and still had that 'tang' and rich flavor. Yours were from a plant that died and didn't develop the sweetness I experienced.

So good. My neighbour gave some to try. I just ate them fresh. No time for sauce. Just tomato salad.

Paul Robeson, Black Krim, and Cherokee Purple are all really similar in my opinion, but like you say there are some differences. Love em all though.

Paul Robeson, is a totally different tomato. I have no luck at all with it. It never fails to come down with verticillium wilt, and I always have to pull the plants. The Black Krim however, goes all summer into autumn with no problems.

The one Black Krim I tried was more smokey than the Cherokee Purple. It's a good tomato! But Cherokee still takes my favorite spot. I have so many more to try, though!
