In this episode, I play the 4 great riffs in Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith. This band is a riff and groove-making machine, and “Sweet Emotion” is bursting with both! Let me know if there are any other Aerosmith riffs or songs you’d like me to highlight.

I was 14 at that concert in Cleveland in Aug of 75. Rod Stewart and the Faces, Uriah Heep, Aerosmith, Mahogany Rush and Blue Oyster Cult. It started to rain at the beginning of the concert and everyone went for cover and we went towards the stage and got front row. Aerosmith was incredible back then.

Hi Carl, I have to say I wasn't really sure of what to make of you and or channel, you sort of just showed up one day and I deeply appreciate where you take us. As an advanced/intermediate player I see the power in your sessions, showing WHY the music works, the nuance, the rhythm ideas, etc. You have instantly impacted my your low key professional style in doing so is excellent. Congrats and thank you!

I loved Aerosmith when I was that age (still do) ... I remember Dream On when I was in 7th or 8th grade ... Great stuff.

Born in 76, so I was 15 and 16 when the Seattle Grunge sound changed the world. I can remember the very first time hearing Smells like Teen Spirit on the radio and seeing the music video for the first time on MTV the next morning before going to school that day. I would purchase my first guitar a few months later after saving up the money. Life changing for sure. I love all the classic rockers like Led Zeppelin especially, but hearing Cobain do things that sounded a bit easier on guitar and making them sound like I could do that in my garage gave me the confidence to give it a go.

I could listen to your explanations and playing all day long Carl. When I was 15 (in 1978), one of my favourite groups was UFO!

When I was that age, "No Quarter, " and "When The Levee Breaks" where like my favorites... I got on to Billy Squire for awhile, "The Stroke, " "Everybody Wants You, " "Emotions In Motion, " and somewhere in there, Billy Thorpe, "East of Edens Gate" was an all time favorite of mine. Amazes me how many people have never heard it.
One of the best opening riffs, "Turn Me Loose, " by Loverboy.
So many great tunes back in the day. Haven't heard anything else that compares to 'back when...

Sammy Hagar's Baby's On Fire is so simple & catchy it got me to pick an axe. He's one of the few who just crank out this kind of stuff.

Wammer Jammer was the warmup tune for heading out to party back in the ‘70’s. Also, Train Kept a Rollin’

Another great blast from my youth... I was /am a huge fan of precorporate Aerosmith... I loved all of their records right until about the early 80's.. But their brand of milk cow blues rock was always etched into my brain... Spent hours listening to them on my friends hi fi stereo.. I miss the 70's LOL! Rock on Carl!..
