I’m 55 from southeastern Ohio but worked overseas all my life. I have savings of $1, 000, 000 and I'm ready for retirement, only concerned about the soaring inflation. Is this enough to retire comfortably, or do I need some sort of money management?

Yes. Politics are important. It sets the tone for how people live in a particular place, and we all want to live someplace where our own values fit with the state and community.

Moving out of the Seattle area within the next two years- and politics absolutely play a part. It's the part driving me out and there's no way I'm moving into a situation anything remotely like what I'm I believe in moderation and extremist on either side make life miserable.

I escaped socialism in Eastern Europe 40 years ago and the mutant socialism in Michigan 2 years ago. Yes, the politics of the place matter a lot.

Two things a town must have. Excellent healthcare and a Costco. Oh, and nice houses for under $100K.

Politics matters, more than it should.
I'm guilty of putting it at the top of the list.
That's why when I hear "paintbrushes and poetry readings" in a towns description, I say, "Nope, not in a million years."
You might not think those 2 things have anything to do with politics, but they do, and if you know, you know.

Politics = crime or lack of it, homelessness or lack of it, fiscal responsibility or lack of it. It's VERY important.

There's a reason Bisbee, AZ isn't your typical retirement site: it's in the middle of nowhere. The closest city of any real size is Sierra Vista (an Army town for Ft. Huachuca) which is about 30 miles away, and Sierra Vista itself is in the middle of nowhere; Tucson is about a 2-hours drive away. For a retiree, to which medical services may be a prominent concern, Bisbee doesn't seem the optimal choice.

Yes, politics matters. I’ve lived in extensively liberal & conservative towns/cities. I’ve learned that, for me, too much of one political view feels oppressive. I would like my community to be healthy mix. Thanks for asking

In response to your question in the video:
“Never thought that this would be a consideration but due to the divisiveness that now accompanies politics and political discussions in recent years, political affiliation does indeed matter when considering places to move to unfortunately.”

Politics of both the city and state will matter where I retire.

These places are still too expensive for me. But i found my version of heaven, with good healthcare, a Costco, a Trader Joe’s - the only problem is that my yard is full of moles. There are some features, like moles and voles, that never make it onto any list of things to consider.
