After Whitey (Adam Sandler) tells a backstory of how Davey's parents died on the night that he won the JCC miracle game, Davey (Adam Sandler) throws a temper tantrum, tells Whitey that he's never gonna win the Patch award because the people of Dukesberry don't know who he is, and have absolutely no respect for him or any of the helpful things he does in the town. Davey then insults Elenore (Adam Sandler) about her wig and bald head, and Whitey forbids Davey from ever coming back to his house again.

When mr and mrs stone died, the whole town of doonsberry was heartbroken. Davey’s team, the coach, Jennifer, whitey, everyone. The heart that never healed was Davey stone’s.

While Davey was awful for yelling at Whitey, the old man was pushing boundaries by talking about Davey's parents dying while Davey himself was telling him to stop.

Man this is even sadder because Davey actually voted for Whitty to win the award. May have been one of the only ones who did so.

We've gotta be fair to Davey here, clearly the death of his parents deeply pains him and Davey had asked Whitey to stop repeatedly. The thing with talking about deeply painful things is that you have to WANT to talk about it. Davey wanted Whitey to stop talking about his parents' deaths, a very fair request if you ask me. However, Whitey doesn't stop talking about it and tries to make Davey talk about it. Whitey had the best intentions without a doubt, but how he acted when Davey asked him to stop was wrong. Does this justify the absolutely cruel things that Davey said to him? No. Does this justify him taking Elenore's wig? No.

Honestly, when I first saw this I was jus like "Well of course he blew up at you both, you kept needling him".

Both sides have a point. Davey obviously didn’t want to be reminded about his parents' death, but Whitey was just trying to encourage to let his emotions loose, because Davey thought drinking and criminal behavior would help him get over his past.

I don't blame Davey for being upset about not talking about the death of his parents, whitey kept talking about it, and Davey repeatedly said "you could stop" it wasn't his business to tell her.

In fairness to Davie here, he asked multiple times not to hear the story of his parents, but they didn’t stop talking about it. It’s quite clear he’s got a lot of trauma and they kept pushing

if I went through the same thing Davey went through I'd lash out at people who tried to help heal ( besides my therapist, my coworkers, my relatives, and my closest friends), some times losing your parents at the age of 12 is rough especially when you feel like part of you died with them. it drives the nicest people to drink and break the law.

Should Davey had flipped out like he did and snatch Eleanors wig ? No, but him being pissed off was warranted. He asked Whitey to stop several times telling the story of his parents death and he continued anyway

In all fairness, Whitey had no right to bring up Davey's traumatic past, especially after he was asked repeatedly to stop. Sure, Davey's response was still way out of line, but you can hardly blame him for exploding like that.

Tbh, this one of the hilarious scenes in the film because the fact that Adam Sandler voices Davey, Whitey, Eleanor and even the narrator and in this scene, it's like Adam Sandler was talking to himself 😂 🤣 😂 🤣
