Blind bought it. Never smelled the original, but I dig it. Like you said, nothing special but overall a good scent. 6hrs longevity moderate projection. The opening is the best part.

I don't know why, but I thought those new melting XXX Zegna bottles were from Z&V. Haven't tried anything new from either brand in a while.

I think the original was a perfect introduction for most people to incense in perfumes without going bonkers. This seems like a must-try, but not a must-buy.
