Показать описание
One city banned cars and the results have been astounding. Buzz60's Tony Spitz has the details.

It’s almost impossible to imagine a city without cars.
In fact, a lot of cities devote as much as 50 to 60 percent of their precious real estate to roads and parking spaces, according to a study by Old Urbanist.
Which is kind of insane.
And that may be why the Spanish city of Pontevedra... has banned them altogether.
According to the Guardian, within his first month of office-mayor Lores converted all 300,000 square meters of the city center’s roads and parking spots into granite walkways for pedestrians and cyclists.
And one resident now describes the city as a quote “paradise.”
In a stretch of road where 30 people were killed from 96’ to 2006- Only 3 have died since then.
CO2 emissions are down a whopping 70% and the city which the mayor described as dying to the guardian… has grown by 12,000 residents.
Even small businesses which have suffered amidst Spain’s economic crisis have been able to survive in Pontevedra.
But of course, as with all things it’s not perfect. The few roadways the city still has on the periphery of town are now prone to traffic jams.
But can you imagine a city like this… without this.
