I love the reference to Voyager's Threshold. Haha. The good doc knows her stuff!

I for one hope that one day scientists could make this a reality! We are destined to travel the galaxy!

The problem with the warp drive is that it's offline when you need it.

Can we have full length episodes of Dr MacDonald explaining real life Trek Tech please?!

Thank you for breaking it down! Now the concept of warp drive is even more exciting!

Neat! I’ve been waiting for a breakdown from a source that has real background experience with the science! Super cool

Warp 10 is basically you, Everything Everywhere all at Once.

I definitely completely understand that

Fun video, you should get her to run the show. if warp 10 = the threshold for when terrible episodes happen, what does spore drive =

What would be cooler than warp drive would be wormholes finding them opening them sending probes through them to see what is on the other end we could travel long distances safely once we know what’s on the other side and having the ability to open and close them

As a kid I imagined the nacelles as electro/magnetic field generators that could use the dilithium crystals to tune the frequency and speed up the field collapse of each since the "speed of light" is really that rate of collapsing field. As if they are turning the whole ship into an extraordinary photon that moves faster than regular ones. This doesn't require any extra dimensional space though 'subspace' could be an artifact experienced in the process. The video says a field is created around the ship and it has its own space-time and this alone 'pushes' it through regular space. How? For the photon we know how that happens (collapsing field creates the next field at 90° next to it but not in same space). If using the sublight engines to create directional thrust you'd be spewing particles within a bubble of spacetime so wouldn't it fill up or cycle around and slow the ship caught in a swamp of its own making? And if the ships are travelling in their own spacetime how are they visible to other ships or interact in any manner? Each would be an island 'universe' unto itself. If there is a 'subspace' as an extradimensional highway then basically you're back to spore drive type theory. 'Subspace bubble' alone doesn't work.

So many goodies in this Warp Drive breakdown 😍👌

i dont get how a warp bubble doesnt create any sort of friction, how it can protect a vessel from particles in space...and at the same time, the ship inside the bubble can propel itself into motion? what is it propelling against, the warp bubble?

Why so many space bubbles, why not just one? Could additional bubbles be attained with more pumped metamaterial layers?

So tell me... are we living in Subspace? To me warp drive pushes normal space away from the starship and creates a warp bubble around the ship. The ship is now in subspace and as Gene Roddenberry said, in subspace the universe is smaller. Since warp pushes normal space away using gravity isn't it the same here on earth with gravity pushing normal space 60 miles away above us, so we actually live in subspace.

Very Well Explained.
So is Warp Drive Possible?
When will We be able to use it?
BTW Your Easy On the EYES!

So what do the dilithium crystals do? MIT website says they contain and channel antimatter reaction. And how is subspace communication explained? Each message does not have a warp drive around it. It's not quantum entanglement because there is something of a lag and that's theorized to be fairly low density info (though it would explain the problem with holograms!).

Dr. Erin, Where were you when STD had Sonar in Space?!

lol speed of light already is broken (and proved) by Eric p Dollard.

Speed of light, is better called rate of induction.

induction (not only magnetic but also dielectric) can result in transverse waves, and longitudinal waves.

and what is medium is waving?
the Aether!

how do you create longitudinal AEther waves? with impulses (like inductive spikes). Amazing things can be done with this impulse electricity (and Nikola Tesla worked it out).

power from resonance for example.
demonstrated and explained in my april 2019 Radiant Power video.
more info on my channel.
