Yes! This is encouraged! Just make sure you know how much to give your child. Usually based on weight/age :)

I took my, then 4 year old to the ER for a fever that was over 104F. She said that her stomach hurt. A little back story; When she was 4 days old her intestines ruptured and she was life flighted to the children’s hospital. She had a portion of her intestines removed and then she had an Ileostomy bag for 6 weeks, then they put her back together. I was told to make sure that any stomach ache was serious for her. The doctor was such an ass. Trying to gaslight me. I asked if he could at least check her out. I asked if it could be her appendix. He told me that she didn’t have an appendix. I threw a mom fit, because that seems like something I would know. Turns out it was her appendix. He decided that since she had already had surgery when she was 4 days old that they took it out then. He was wrong, I threw another mom fit, and got a better doctor. She’s 23.

When parents do the thing they're supposed to before immediately going to the hospital

I recently rushed my 8 mobth old to the E.R. for a 104.9 fever. She's my 4th and none of my other kids had fevers near that high. I gave her tylenol before going. They gave her motrin. After baby was sleeping and her fever was lowering (about an hour after arriving) the doc came in and sat on the edge of the bed and was so sweet to calm my fears. He said it's really only an emergency if it's a sudden fever. Like you go from 98.6 to 104 in a very short time. If baby/kid is sick and they've kinda had a fever and it's crept up then do tylenol and motrin together. It'll bring the fever down. Then every 3 hours alternate tylenol and motrin. They said there really wasn't any reason to bring the baby in, but understandable that I did.

My 10 month old just recently had Covid & spiked a sudden fever of 104, it came on so quickly that it caused febrile seizures & because it happened so quickly I didn’t even have the chance to give her any medicine for it as she went from no fever to 104 & seizures within just a couple minutes. I felt like a horrible mom at the hospital & the nurse there reassured me so much & took such great care of us through out the night & even forced me & my husband to get some sleep because we hadn’t slept in almost 24 hours. He checked on her every hour & even would come to comfort her when she would cry & make me go lay back down. I’ll never forget the kindness that man showed my family that night.

Took my son to the ER for a fever when he was 4 weeks old. Overheard 2 nurses in the hallway. Nurse 1 "why didnt she just give him Tylenol " " nurse 2. "Check his age and your attitude ". Love that 2nd nurse.

I became a nurse because of medical staff not listening to my opinion and instincts as a mom that something was wrong with my baby and not me abusing her. Won 2 awards later as a nurse for saving a life and caring for another patient. Nurses please be compassionate when caring for others always think’what if it’s you how would you or your loved one like to be treated as a patient

It’s always nice to see a parent actually try to take care of their child’s fever before taking them to the emergency room. Very proud of this Mom much encouraged.

More than 35 years ago as a first time mother, I rushed my infant son to the E.R. It was the middle of winter and I had my son wrapped in a blanket.
I had given him Tylenol, but the wrong amount. It was children's instead of infant and I was conservative in my calculations because I didn't want to give him too much.
They gave me such a hard time at the Er.
They called me an idiot for having him wrapped in a blanket while he had a fever. And said I was stupid for not knowing how much medicine to give him.
They said I had no business being a mother.
I was 19 with no support system and doing the best I could for tge baby I loved so much.
His temp dropped with the right amount of medication and I learned a few good lessons about caring for a sick baby.
I hope they have since learn a few things about compassion and understanding.
All of my children have survived to adulthood and hold no resentments toward me and my fallibility.

My 18 month old went from no fever to fever of 104 within a short time. I only noticed when I went to change her after a few hours out shopping. She had no symptoms of being ill and was happy and eating prior to getting home. As I reached for the Tylenol she had a seizure right in my arms. We called paramedics and my husband took her out on the patio waiting for them. It was early spring so cooler outside too. An ER visit and suppository of acetaminophen later, her temperature came down and I was told next time to lay her on her side so she doesn’t choke and that there was no need to then bring her into emergency. Apparently, once you seizure, it could happen again until age 5. So I was always paranoid for the next few years each time she had a fever. Thankfully it never happened again thank God and she’s now 24.
It was a very scary experience to go through. Bless all of the kind medical staff and parents and wishing your children the best of health

My son was 10 months old and hadn’t been feeling well. He was breastfed and throwing everything up. I thought the flu in August. Fewer began and I gave him Tylenol. It wouldn’t break. We took him to our local ER which was a street over and they said, “Why did you bring him here?” I was upset and left because I felt something was really wrong. Took him downtown to the main hospital and he had intussusception.

Better to be concerned for your child than to let things go is my motto!

My friend had her 1st baby shower back in April. I asked my sister, who is a mom of 2, what was the best gift she got. She said SHE put together her own baby 1st aid kit, and it was the best thing she ever did. So I got 2 things off my friends registry (to be respectful) and added a remote thermometer, baby tylenol, baby motrin, vitamin D drops, gripe water, baby saline spray and night and day baby orajel for their teething. Weeks after the baby was born, she thanked me for the gift. She said she used the thermometer daily and that everything in my gift was so thoughtful. I was scared she would be upset b/c I chose meds for her baby. I made sure to choose what my sister had used because she knew it worked. But she was so grateful. A mommy and baby first aid kit is a great gift 🎁

For Baby Shower gifts I always have the little first aid kit, to give to the new parents. Cannot tell you how many calls/texts/emails I have received over the years telling me, THANK YOU!! When their young child was sick they did not have to go to the store in the middle of the night to get some of the things I had given them! My gift may never be the fun one, the pretty one, the cute and adorable one, but I always get the calls later on :)

YES! This is too common, I understand it’s normal to worry for your child. But as someone who was dragged to the E.R. too many times to count as a child, (some for normal fevers, and stomach aches) please try Tylenol first if it’s a normal fever.

If it’s a sudden high fever, it’s probably best to visit the E.R. In some cases it could be something serious, and I’d say then it’s better to be safe than sorry.

-Did you give him Tylenol?
-No, only acetaminophen.

When I was 11 my mom brought me to the doctor because I’d been ill for an entire week and it felt worse than an average stomach bug. After looking at me, the nurse said I just had a stomach bug and to keep me hydrated. My mom KNEW something else was up and had them check my weight and they did a blood test as well. A few days later, I got diagnosed with t1 diabetes. She knew something was wrong with me and refused to let that nurse tell her she was wrong, I love her so much, she’s the best mom ever ❤

Having a sick baby is terrifying. You never feel more helpless than at that moment. Doctors and nurses see parents at their worst when they have a ailing toddler/infant.
