After owning it for 20 years, our Minor 1000 needed serious corrosion repairs - much of the floor, all inner wheel arches and many other parts. Budget at least £10, 000 for extensive repairs by a specialist repair shop. You can spend £30, 000 on a complete restoration on a non-running wreck. There are bargains to be had at auctions - a fully restored saloon went recently for only £5, 500. Great, very useful video.

They’re awesome little cars - my wife had a maroon 1000cc 2 door saloon about 25 years ago - it was her first car, and at the time, regarded as an old banger, so it cost peanuts. She loved it - and it had a surprising turn of speed. I’d love a traveller - fabulous! That rorty exhaust note is so evocative of Britain in days gone by………

Lucky to have a 3 owner, 17000 mile, original 1961 sedan. Pretty, clean, even the badges haven't clouded. Still has the new Moggy smell.

There is no synchromesh in the first gear so you can double de clutch as much as you like but it will crunch.
You really need to be stopped to engage first gear.

I've only just come across this video and wanted to mention that your comments about blue smoke aren't entirely correct. Blue smoke (oil burn) on acceleration is most likely to be worn rings/bores. Worn valve guides would much more likely to show up as blue smoke on initial start up, smoke after a period of idling, such as at traffic lights and then when you pull away, you leave a cloud behind you, or most commonly on deceleration. A good test to check is to either accelerate in 2nd or 3rd and instead of changing gears, back off the accelerator and allow the car to slow from engine braking (don't push the clutch) as the engine slows the car, it creates high vacuum inside and if the guides are worn, it'll suck oil paste them and show as smoke. The same will happen if you engine brake running down a hill, just get someone to watch from behind in both cases.

The gearboxes weren't all that good, not only worn synchros need to be checked but a chipped tooth on reverse gear was fairly common too. If you road test a Minor always check reverse gear. Same goes for Austin A40 Farina.

The Minor must be the only classic car where the estate version is now more valuable than the convertible!

Thank you a really informative Vlog on the Mogs. One thing which. would have liked to learnt is about how they were manufactered to run on 4 star petrol and what can be done to have them running on modern E10 unleaded.

I would love a Minor, but it would have to have a 1275cc engine transplant, and servo assisted brakes with discs on the front.

If you haven’t done a video on a mid-late 90s Astra, please do one! That would be pure nostalgia for me

When these cars came out you could drive a lot more faster. Nowadays we drive a lot more slower! It's an ideal car but probably with lots of rust!
