What are Non-Linear Stories?

THIS video, drawn from my doctoral thesis, Multiform and Multistrand Narrative Structures in Hollywood Cinema, provides a snapshot of the increasingly popular category of non-linear films.

Examples are drawn from: Donnie Darko (2001), written and directed by Richard Kelly, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michael Gondry, and The Matrix (1999), written and directed by the Wachowskis.

Dang, it's been a while since I've heard these. Definitely need to watch Donnie Darko and ESoTSM again.
Thanks for giving us a nice and quick summary of these concepts again and sharing your thesis Stavros.

Do you plan on talking about Multi-strand sometime soon?

Ah, the multiform. I think the trend towards non-traditional narrative structuring is growing, so it's a great time to study up on writing techniques for either. Thanks for another great video, Doctor Stavros!
