United Airlines Narrowbody Aircraft Retrofit Plan Met With Supply Chain Delays

​​Chicago-based United Airlines is running behind schedule in its effort to retrofit the cabins of its older Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Most passengers prefer IFE. Very few people like to use their own devices because of a number of reasons that include taking up tray table space, having to use a charger, etc. IFE is more integrated and user-friendly.

100% prefer IFE screens, so much easier and more content for kids, no messing around with cords to charge devices. I'm fine with device streaming on LCCs but I expect full service carriers to have IFE.

If I fly on a plane with IFE, I usually put on the flight map on the seatback entertainment and use my personal devices to do everything else. Though I have used the IFE a few times before to watch shows or movies, but most of the times there’s nothing interesting to watch on them.

Everyone prefers PTVs. To normal people a plane with PTVs is “new” and a plane without is “old”.

The ideology of ‘just in time’ logistics has been exposed as inflexible and difficult to recover shortages.
And there seems little that end users are able to do to recover.

i like having seat back IFE mainly for the map and flight info while being on my phone but I guess i would be fine with personal device streaming from my phone as long as wifi and working power outlets are available

I always wondered if more short haul aircraft will go down the route of more powerful inflight WiFi and streaming-based entertainment. Lack of IFE screens means fewer components in a cabin to maintain, which also means the aircraft is lighter and with the rise of Netflix and Disney +, passengers can download films that may not be available onboard, beforehand to keep themselves entertained. Just a thought process, don’t hate me…

The disposable wired earbuds that Delta provided on my last A321 flight were annoying. I look forward to using the seat back screen with my Bluetooth headset.

Why don't they design 'fins' on the side of the wheels so that they spin up to speed in the airstream before touching the tarmac?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't American also back tracked on the choice to remove IFEs just like United? Last I heard American was also trying to install them on all their aircraft.

The lack of screens at AA is only the tip of the iceberg. There are many reasons why AA is as lousy as Spirit.
Just one example: there are many third-world airports that are better than AA's JFK terminals...

When i saw the seat back screens my first thought was they seem unnecessary. Narrow body flights I go on aren't usually long enough to really have time for IFE.

I don't know why they are bothering with the old airbus that will be retired in the nex 2 to 3 years.

I prefer personal device and I fly only United I’m glad that they are trying to refit their aircraft’s but for me personally it will make no difference to me. I will continue use my personal device good job United
