Can reading make you live longer?

In a 2016 study of subjects 50 years and older, researchers found that readers tended to live 23 months longer than those who didn't. Additionally, those who read more than 3.5 hours per week were 23% less likely to die.

Basically, the study found that the more the subjects read, the longer they seemed to live. But the researchers also found that the longevity benefit came from reading books and not from magazines or newspapers. This may be because books require more cognitive engagement, promote empathy, social perception, and emotional intelligence.

This gives you another good reason for you to pick up a book and start reading!
